Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.
— Winston Churchill
As we journey through life, things won’t always go the way we want to or hope for. During difficult times it is very difficult to maintain a positive attitude. It is truly an effort. But if we fall into depression, it’s like we’re slowly sinking into quicksand. Instead of maintaining your focus on the things that need to be done, or trying to solve the problem at hand, negative feelings or thoughts are like weight belts to a sinking man…they weigh us down. When we focus on the positive, we give ourselves the opportunity to think more clearly. It allows us to become calm and receptive. Negativity is like a swarm of bees pestering us. They distract us from the situation at hand. When we are calm and collected, we think more clearly…it allows us to be receptive to possible solutions.
In the end, the thing that affects the outcome is how we see the situation…our attitude. Do you see a glass half empty or half full? The volume of the liquid inside the glass is not the important thing; what’s important is how we perceive it to be.
